The Department of Economics at Queens College, City University of New York, is pleased to welcome three new assistant professors who will be joining us in Fall 2009 and 2010.

Dr. Neil Cummins is currently completing his Ph.D in economics at the London School of Economics and will join QC Economics faculty in Fall 2009. He is an economic historian whose fields also include demographic economics and historical demography. His dissertation research explores the links between economic development and fertility during the periods of industrial revolution and demographic transition in England and France.

Dr. Francesc Ortega, who will arrive in Fall 2010, comes to us from the department of economics and business at the Universitat Pompeu Fabra in Barcelona, Spain, where he is currently an assistant professor of economics. He earned his Ph.D at New York University in 2004. His fields of interest include international economics, development, and labor economics, and his current research focuses on the socioeconomic causes and consequences of migration.

Dr. Inas Rashad, who will join us in Fall 2009, is a summa cum laude graduate of Queens College, earning her B.A. in economics in 2000 and her Ph.D in economics from the Graduate Center of the City University of New York in 2004. During her Ph.D studies, she also taught economics at Queens College as an adjunct professor. Dr. Rashad is a faculty research fellow in health economics at the National Bureau of Economic Research and is currently an assistant professor of economics at the Andrew Young School of Policy Studies at Georgia State University. Her research focuses on the economics and geography of obesity, physical activity, and other demand-driven health economics problems such as risky adolescent behavior and drug abuse.
