M.S. in Risk Management Program

On May 25th, the New York State Education Department registered two new Masters of Science degree programs in Risk Management at Queens College. Both the M.S. in Risk Management, Finance Concentration and the M.S. in Risk Management, Dynamic Financial Analysis Concentration were registered. Registration for the M.S. in Risk Management, Accounting concentration, is anticipated.


The recent financial crisis has put a spotlight on the critical role of risk management in modern business enterprises. High profile failures of financial institutions and other corporations have exposed weaknesses in the way that risk was managed. Most importantly, the crisis has emphasized the need for an enterprise risk management approach, which recognizes that effective risk management must be practiced throughout the corporation, starting with governance, and embody such functions as operations, legal and regulatory compliance, information technology, and accounting and auditing. The enterprise risk management approach also recognizes that all risk exposures must be managed, not just those that lend themselves to quantitative measurement and modeling, or those for which risk transfer mechanisms exist.

To this end, Queens College offers two M.S. in Risk Management Degrees, the

  • M.S. in Risk Management, Finance Concentration and the

  • M.S. in Risk Management, Dynamic Financial Analysis Concentration.

    A third degree, the M.S. in Risk Management, Accounting Concentration is in the process of securing NY State Education Department registration which is anticipated. Students who wish to earn a degree with the Accounting Concentration may apply for Fall 2010 admission to the M.S. in Accounting in anticipation of such approval for the M.S. in Risk Management, Accounting Concentration. Upon approval, students will be automatically matriculated into the M.S. in Risk Management, Accounting Concentration.
